Advice for Rain on Your Wedding Day: How to Embrace It and Make the Most of Your Rainy Day Wedding Photos.

Ah, the great British weather. We all know how unpredictable it can be, and unfortunately, that includes the possibility of rain on your wedding day. But fear not! As a wedding photographer, I’ve been through it all, and I’ve got some top tips to help you embrace the rain and still have the best day ever.

The Tradition of Rain on Your Wedding Day

First things first, let’s talk about the tradition that rain on your wedding day is good luck. Yes, you read that right. It’s said to be a symbol of fertility and cleansing, and let’s be honest, a little bit of rain never hurt anyone, right? So, if it does rain on your wedding day, take it as a good omen and embrace it.

Rainy Day Wedding Tips: Plan B

If that’s not enough to convince you let’s get onto the practicalities. If you’re getting married in the UK, it’s always a good idea to have a plan B in case of rain. Grab a few clear umbrellas for you and your bridal party, and keep them close by if the weather is looking particularly soggy. I’ve even got a huge one in the boot of my car just in case.

But what if it’s really raining, and you’re just not up for it?

Don’t worry. We’ll always make sure there’s a plan B/C. This could be moving timings around or looking for shelter or cute spots indoors. I’m here to help not just take the pictures, so know that I’ll always be here to help. Not often does it rain constantly and so a little rejig of timings and we can still head outside, failing that I’ll be scouting out areas for us to create some magic inside.

Rainy Day Wedding Tips: Moody Skies are in!

As for me, don’t worry about a thing! I’m up for it if you are, and my kit can handle a bit o’weather. In fact, some of my favourite wedding pictures have been taken in the rain. There’s something romantic and moody about them, and it can make for some really beautiful shots. Top Tips for Rainy Day Weddings

  1. Have a backup plan: If you’re planning an outdoor wedding, make sure you have a backup plan in case of rain. This could mean moving the ceremony indoors or having a tent available for guests to take cover.
  2. Embrace the rain: Don’t let the rain ruin your day. Instead, embrace it and use it to your advantage. Rain can create a romantic and intimate atmosphere and provide creative photo opportunities.
  3. Have umbrellas: Make sure you have plenty of umbrellas on hand for the wedding party and guests. You could even incorporate the umbrellas into your wedding decor or use them as photo props.
  4. Plan for indoor activities: If you’re planning an outdoor reception, consider having indoor activities available for guests, such as board games or photo booths.
  5. Stay positive: Remember, the most important thing is that you’re marrying the love of your life. Rain can’t dampen the love and joy you feel on your wedding day.
  6. Work with your photographer: I’ve got your back! Just trust me to capture beautiful photos despite the rain, it’s often a great way for me to get creative.
  7. Be flexible: If you need to make last-minute changes to your plans, be flexible and roll with the punches. Your wedding day will still be incredible, even if it’s not exactly what you had envisioned.
  8. Don’t sweat the mess: Things might get a little mucky including your dress but I promise you that the professionals can work wonders with any stains be it mud or cocktails.
  9. SMILE: You’re marrying the love of your life! That’s the best things ever!
