Weddings at Sheffield Botanical Gardens

Sheffield Botanical Gardens is the kind of place that immediately puts you at ease. Step through the gates and the city fades away, replaced by winding paths, layered greenery and soft summer light. On a warm, blue-sky day, it was the perfect setting for Alice & Jack’s wedding. Relaxed, non-traditional and full of easy joy.

For Alice & Jack, their day felt more like a garden party than a formal event. An outdoor ceremony just outside the pavilion, ice creams shared in the sunshine and a laid-back dinner at Joni’s next door. No unnecessary traditions, no rigid schedule, just a celebration that unfolded naturally and left space for everyone to enjoy it.

Why the Gardens Works So Well for Weddings

Sheffield Botanical Gardens is ideal for couples who want an outdoor wedding with a relaxed feel. Everything happens outside, which immediately sets a slower pace and encourages people to linger. The gardens feel generous and open, but there are plenty of quieter corners too, perfect for moments away from the crowd.

The pavilion works beautifully as a focal point. It adds structure and elegance without feeling formal or imposing, making it a great backdrop for ceremonies and group photos. The space never feels overdone, which makes it especially suited to weddings that prioritise atmosphere over tradition.

From a photography point of view, Sheffield Botanical Gardens offers so much variety without needing to move far. The greenery creates a rich, natural backdrop, and the light changes gently throughout the day, giving each part of the celebration its own feel.

We had exclusive access inside the pavilion, which was a real highlight. Surrounded by lush green tones and soft light, it was the perfect spot for relaxed group photos that still felt considered and editorial.

Later in the day, we headed back into the gardens as the light softened. The fountain caught the evening sun beautifully, and with fewer people around, it felt calm and intimate. Those moments gave A & J some space together and resulted in some of the most natural, story-led images of the day.

With so many nearby spots to continue the celebration, you can move easily from green and lush surroundings to something more urban, like Kelham Island.
